If you read my reviews, you might think I'm a little easy when I evaluate disks. Perhaps I love sex so much that I tend to see the best in most every scene. However, this disk sucks. Make no mistake about it. The sex is quite good, however the PRODUCTION VALUES are absolutely awful. Here's why: Video: The on-screen video is almost always way too light (to the point of obliteration of the image) or extremely dark. The lighting is very harsh and casts very strong shadows that make the womens' lovely bodies look hard-featured, prematurely old, and haggard (note: diffused light softens shadows and makes people look prettier). The image is also overly contrasty, inexplicably grainy, and often blurry. To make matters worse, it appears as if a rank amateur photographed the video with a brand new video camera using every special effects feature available. Indeed, the video has so many special effects that the quality of the sex is adversely affected. For example, I noted the overuse of slow motion, fast-motion, black-and-white, reversed colors, and strobe motion. I also didn't like the fact that Jill Kelly shows up as a member of the crew in several scenes when she photographs the action with a hand-held video camera-shots that obviously weren't used in the final edited scene. Audio: The dubbed-in musical soundtrack completely obliterates most of the all-important sounds of sex. What's worse, the extensive use of slow motion required the editor to dub in what sexual sounds there are. Thus, the moans and shouts of pleasure don't match the on-screen action. Worst of all, the combination of dubbed-in audio, too loud soundtrack, and special effects prevents me from knowing if and when the women cum, something that is very important to my enjoyment of a sex scene. Cast listing: Don't let the cast list fool you. It's misleading because most of the women only appear in one scene-the final group all-girl orgy. What's worse, some of the women in the cast list don't appear at all. It's also inaccurate because there are performers in the scenes who I don't recognize and who are not mentioned in the cast list. I highly resent it when studios do not make it clear who is performing for me. It's inexcusable! I usually try to keep my evaluation of the sex in scenes separate from my evaluation of the technical aspects of a disk. However, for me to give full credit to a scene, the actress must convince me that she came. In most of the scenes on this disk, I can't judge that. So, the sex rating of most scenes are adversely affected by the unfortunate technical debacle that is The Best of Perfect Pink.
